Six Regenerative Agriculture Certifications: an Overview

Figuring out the differences and commonalities between the various regenerative agricultural certifications that have popped up can be challenging.

The Climate Collaborative just released a helpful overview for six main regenerative agriculture certifications.


For each of the 6 certifications, the overview lists:


  • Theory of change

  • What's considered beyond soil health

  • Whether US and global contexts are considered

  • Focus crop(s)

  • Acreage requirement

  • Room for contributing more broadly to regenerative ag

  • Third party certification

  • Stage of development/maturity

  • Required tests

  • Accommodation of test result variability

  • Timing of verification

  • Renewal requirements

  • On farm audit requirements

  • Farmer support

  • Product trademark or label

  • Potential for consumer recognition
